Ministry of Local Government Administration in cooperation with the Ministry for European Integration, as well as in support of German Governmental Organization for International Cooperation (GIZ), on June 22, 2016 held the second informing conference with municipalities in the region of Peja/Pec, on the topic “Stabilization – Association Agreement Kosovo – EU and its implementation".
The purpose of this conference was to discuss on the importance of SAA, the steps to be taken towards its implementation, and the role and responsibilities that the municipalities of Kosovo have, in the context of fulfillment of obligations of the European agenda.
The opening ceremony of the information conference was made by Deputy Minister of Local Government Administration, Mr. Bajram Gecaj, and Deputy Minister of European Integration, Mr. Ramadan Ilazi, and Ambassador of Royal Netherlands in Kosovo, Ms. Gerrie Williems.
Then, Deputy Minister of MLGA Mr. Gecaj, emphasized that " The fulfillment of the obligations arising from the agenda of the European Union for Kosovo, should not meant as an obligation of Kosovo towards the EU, but as our obligation for our citizens and the state, because the fulfillment of these obligations provides sustainable economic development that results in better social welfare and provides a legal and democratic state, so we will reach as the state, to embrace the democratic values of the European Union ".
The participants discussed on the benefits from the SAA, Kosovo- EU and also about its implementation with particular emphasis on economic criteria. Also, it was emphasized the importance of the National Program for the Implementation of the SAA, which focuses on three strategic aspects of Kosovo’s membership in the EU, that are related to the fulfillment of the obligations under the SAA, approximation of national legislation with the EU Acquis, as well as the implementation of harmonized legislation – through the advancement of policies, institutional reforms and capacity building.
The second part of the conference has continued with the presentation of Mr. Artan Çollaku, Head of the Department for Coordination of the Stabilization and Association Process in MIE, with the topic, "Obligations and political and economic benefits arising from the SAA", and Mr. Yll Valla, Acting Head of Department for European Integration and Policy Coordination in MAPL, with the topic "Obligations of municipalities from the European agenda for 2016".
