Deputy Minister Fejzullahu at the Jubilear Conference on Local Governance “10 years after Decentralization and the establishment of Local Government” – Challenges of a decade, the journey in the second decade

Today, on June 13, 2018, the Local Government Institute (LGI) on the tenth anniversary of the adoption of the Regulation for local government, at the same time the Jubilee of its establishment, has organized the Jubilear Conference of Local Government titled “10 years after Decentralization and the establishment of Local Government” – Challenges of a decade, the journey in the second decade’.

The conference aimed at strengthen local self-government, better service for the citizens of the country as well as Kosovo partners who have invested and are investing in Kosovo.

At the second session of the “Toward Reforms” Conference, the Deputy Minister of Local Government Administration, Beqir Fejzullahu, thanked the Institute for Local Governance on organizing of this conference, which marked the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the local government and the conclusion of the decentralization process and full implementation of the obligations that have arised from the Ahtisaari package.

Deputy Minister Fejzullahu added that “The local governance, which is now turning into self-government with tendencies of consolidating local autonomy for municipalities and deepening reforms in the local self-government system for municipalities and deepening reforms in the local self-government system in Kosovo, is entering the most important stage of its functionalization.

MLGA has drafted the “Strategy for Local Self-Government 2016-2026”, which will be a guide for all processes in function of development and advancement of local self-government in Kosovo. An important role has also the MGLA, which has as a mission to increase local autonomy and strengthen the ability of municipalities to provide cost-effective services through the active participation of citizens and democratic representation and to enhance the quality of life, the security and the local economy.

MLGA for these 10 years has supported municipalities in improving the quality of municipal services in the technical, administrative and financial aspect and this support is guaranteed to municipalities in the coming years, on purpose of advancing of local government, “said Deputy Minister Fejzullahu adding that we shall work all together for a better local governance, transparent, efficient, effective in providing sustainable public services for all citizens of the Republic of Kosovo.
