Mrs. Venera Çerkini, Head of the Legal Department and Monitoring of Municipalities in MLG, was hosted by the Mayor of Viti, Mr. Sokol Halili and its co-workers, to discuss the progress of the pilot project for the identification of physical access for Persons with Disabilities.
In this regard, the Ministry of Local Government according to the Strategy for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (2013-2023) is in charge of informing, participating and representing the Persons with Physical Disabilities (PPD). Pilot The project in question has started to be implemented in 2020 in the municipality of Viti, as good practices gained from the implementation of the SoRi project for the possibility of identifying physical access to all public and private facilities, in order not to discriminate and integrate PËDs into society.
In this meeting, Mayor Haliti, emphasized that this project is of great importance, because citizens with special needs will benefit from it. He emphasized that the municipality of Viti will do its best until the finalization of this project. Whereas Mrs. Çerkini, informed the participants about this pilot project and in particular spoke about People with Disabilities who are the most marginalized part of our society in general, because in addition to physical, intellectual or sensory disabilities they face various health and social and infrastructure barriers, and the latter is a concern for this community. Therefore, central and local institutions need to support them more and more every day.
Thus the meeting continued with Mrs. Ibadete Hyseni and Rafiz Shabiu, municipal officials in Viti, and Luljeta Ibishi Ferizi, Deputy Head of the Division for the Advancement of Human Rights in Municipalities.
