Today, on 4th of October 2018, in Prishtina, under the organization of the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning it is being held the meeting with the Task Force for addressing air pollution problems, where part of the panel is also the Deputy Minister Mr. Beqir Fejzullahu.
The Deputy Minister Fejzullahu said that “In accordance with the mandate and the responsibilities of the Ministry of Local Government Administration, we are searching for more efficient methods of protecting the environment. During February this year, MLGA has informed the municipalities about their legal obligations in protecting the air from pollution. It was required from municipal authorities to undertake concrete actions in limiting and avoiding completely the air pollutants. Furthermore, MLGA has required from the municipalities that within their legal competences to execute the actions as follows: Drafting of Local Air Quality Plans; Approval of Local Environment Action Plans or Joint Environment Plans with other municipalities; Plans for waste management; Implementing of principles for environment protection within the competences granted to municipalities; Continuous check and monitoring of the state of environment; as well as Reporting at the responsible Ministry for all the operators who emit air pollution.”
The Deputy Minister Fejzullahu emphasized that the Ministry of Local Government Administration will insist that municipalities within their competences to follow the legal obligations also in regards to environment protection. Therefore priority should be given also when doing budgetary planning, in order to secure the needed capacities for improving environment conditions and implementing projects that affect the air quality. The effort for undertaking air pollution the measures is not easy, but I ensure you that MLGA with all its mechanisms will do everything possible for that the air pollution to be a priority and eventually to achieve the required standards for a safe environment and clean air.
