The conference titled “Decentralization a heavyweight to be realized” was held organized by the Kosovo Local Government Institute and Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES).
Deputy Prime Minister of Government of Kosovo, meantime Minister of Local Government Administration (MLGA), Mr. Slobodan Petrovic, Chief of International Civilian Office (ICO), Mr. Pieter Feith, former-Minister of MLGA, Mr. Sadri Ferati, Mayors of Kosovo, as well as representatives of bodies involved in the decentralization process in Kosovo were participants in this conference.
Underlying the strategic goal of Government of Kosovo, Deputy Prime Minister Petrovic emphasized that MLGA is committed to the creation of an efficient and sustainable local government system throughout the territory of Kosovo. He added that even that lots of efforts and lots of achievements have been done; we altogether have still lots of road to do purposely to achieve the common objective.
"Strengthening of local government structures aiming services provision closer to citizens represents the main objective of the Ministry of Local Government Administration, meantime we have contributed in the successfully fulfillment of this aim with the continuous support of our partners”, said he.
Further, Chief of ICO, Mr. Feith assessed that the decentralization process is neither easy nor perfect in implementation, and he added that the International Civilian Office is committed to assist Kosovo institutions in the dedication they have towards the decentralization process.
"Usage of existing resources and joint work are crucial for a sustainable municipal development and they guarantee local governance and better services for all citizens”, said he.
Further in this conference, former-Minister Ferati presented an analysis of the decentralization process in Kosovo and added that all actors but especially competent institutions should continue to undertake coordinated activities so that a better perspective for all in Kosovo will be built.
In this conference, the Mayor of Novoberda also talked. He presented the experiences of this municipality in the decentralization process, whereas the Director of Kosovo Local Government Institute, Mr. Besnik Tahiri, presented the detailed report on decentralization process prepared from the Kosovo Local Government Institute.
