IT IS FORMALIZED THE AGREEMENT BETWEEN MLGA, BRITISH EMBASSY AND UNDP FOR INITIATING THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE PROJECT FOR INCREASE OF INSTITUTIONAL ACCOUNTABILITY AND BUDGETARY TRANSPARENCY

Today the General Secretary of MLGA Mrs. Rozafa Ukimeraj hosted in a meeting the Ambassador of Great Britain in Kosovo Mr. Ruairí O’Connell and the Acting Permanent Representative of UNDP in Kosovo Mrs. Alessandra Roccasalvo.

Secretary Ukimeraj thanked and expressed her gratitude to the Ambassador of the Great Britain in Kosovo Mr. O’Connell and the Acting Permanent Representative of UNDP in Kosovo Mrs. Roccasalvo, upon the formalization of the cooperation between the MLGA, British Embassy and UNDP and for initiating the implementation of the joint project for the increase of the institutional accountability and budget transparency when spending public funds.

Additionally Secretary Ukimeraj emphasized that “This project, despite the fact that it is based on advanced practices for increasing the internal control on management of public finances, at the same time it gives opportunity to citizens to get the information in real time regarding the spending of the public funds. It also influences the increase of budget transparency and institutional accountability, with regards to spending of the public funds in relation to citizens and taxpayers”.

The Ambassador of the Great Britain in Kosovo Mr. Ruairí O’Connell emphasized that “He is contented that the Government of Great Britain has provided continuous support for Kosovo, and also the formalization of this agreement for establishment of this system, marks the beginning of positive changes for the country and the society, where complete transparency at all levels of the government is a guarantee to successful work and to the welfare for all citizens”.

Acting Permanent Representative of UNDP in Kosovo Mrs. Alessandra Roccasalvo reconfirmed the support of UNDP for the agreement reached and the future steps that will be undertaken with the aim of increasing the transparency, accountability and efficiency.

In concluding the meeting Secretary Ukimeraj thanked the Ambassador O’Connell for the generous and continuous support in strengthening the principles of good governance. Especially for the contribution and the support provided to the ministry on monitoring the recruitment processes, though BIRN and as such contributing to a joint and very serious effort of increasing the credibility of the recruitment process of the civil servants at all levels. Therefore while strictly respecting the merit principle we could have an impact in increasing the professionalism of civil servants, depoliticisation of the public administration, increasing of the credibility of the state institutions as well as providing opportunities for competent people and with professional integrity.
