Yesterday, the Minister of Local Government Administration, Adrijana Hodžić, has presented the 100-day Work Report of the Ministry.
Minister Hodžić in her presentation emphasized “I believe that you are all aware that it is in the mandate of MLGA to oversee the work of all municipalities throughout Kosovo. Our mandate is to provide the local self-government in Kosovo with necessary support from the central level, because support for municipalities means support for our citizens.”
Further on, Minister Hodžić focused on the achievements and challenges of MLGA during these 100 working days in areas such as: development of legislation, oversight and monitoring of municipalities in exercising public functions, European agenda, municipal performance, transparency, inter-municipal, international inter-municipal and cross-border cooperation, as well as sustainable municipal development.
For the 100-day period of work, 45 Agreements have been signed with the Mayors in order implementation of 45 capital investment projects, in the amount of 2,861,445.00 Euro. Minister Hodžić also presented that in the 100-day period, 2 stimulative funds have been launched for municipalities: The Gender Equality Fund and the Inter-Municipal Cooperation Fund.
At the end of the presentation, Minister Hodžić presented the recommendations that should be addressed as a joint institutional effort to improve and support local self-government:
- Quality integration of communities in local self-government bodies;
- Transparency;
- Involvement of citizens in the decision-making processes;
- Involvement of youth in all local policy planning and implementation processes;
- Increasing safety in construction;
- Increasing representation of women in decision-making bodies;
- Increasing cooperation between municipalities.
The participants were also addressed by Mr. Jan Braathu, OSCE Ambassador – Mission in Kosovo who emphasized that “OSCE together with MLGA have an excellent cooperation in the implementation of the MLGA – OSCE Joint Programming Plan deriving from the Local Self-Government Strategy 2016 – 2026. He has highly valued the work of the Minister of Local Government Administration and her team”.
Kosovo Assembly members, foreign ambassadors, representatives of international and local organizations in Kosovo, as well as representatives from civil society attended this event.
