December 15, 2021

Minister of Local Government Administration, Elbert Krasniqi, participated in the event of the Council of Europe for the promotion of local democracy, while highly appreciating the cooperation between local and international institutions.

In its opening speech Minister Krasniqi, emphasized the importance of the engagement of the Ministry of Local Government Administration in supporting the municipalities and citizens:

“We are happy that the Council of Europe is analyzing the compatibility of our system. I am very happy that the local self-government has finally received the attention and focus it deserves, both from the Government and from international organizations and institutions.

Such a thing is also a responsibility for the position that I have and requires maximum commitment and dedication in order to advance this field. By advancing it we directly touch and improve the lives of all our citizens.

Of course, any reform must be accompanied in advance by detailed studies in the relevant field, in order for it to be appropriate and substantive. This study published today contributes to this issue and is a very important asset that the MLGA will have.”

Additionally, Minister Krasniqi in his speech, mentioned the steps taken in relation to the Eloge process accredited by the Council of Europe: “I am pleased to share with you for the first time, that we are in the process of detailing the final steps of the ELOGE program, accredited by the Council of Europe. The aim of this program will be to assess where municipalities stand in terms of compliance with the 12 Principles of Good Democratic Governance.”
