The conference entitled “The Role of Municipalities in the Water Services Sector” organized by the Water Task Force (OPM), Ministry of Local Government Administration, Ministry for Economic Development, in cooperation with the Association of Municipalities of Kosova was held today in the premises of the Government of Kosova.
While emphasizing that drinking water should be treated as inexhaustible resource, the Deputy Prime Minister of Kosova and Minister of Local Government Administration, Mr. Slobodan Petrovic has said that MLGA will offer continual support to the municipal governments, in order to further advance the water services sector.
"The process of natural waters protection has already begun, and the current situation of water supply is better. However, in some municipalities, we still have challenges, which require increased commitment and coordination among relevant actors in accordance with government strategic objectives", he said.
Further to the conference, Minister of Economic Development, Mr. Besim Beqaj said the level of cooperation between the municipalities and companies involved in the water sector, should be definitely increased, in order to provide better services to citizens.
"Management aspect of water services sector is a very important segment and requires special commitment”, he emphasized.
Additionally, in this conference, apart from the presentation of Mr. Guido Beltrani, deputy director of the Office for Swiss Cooperation in Kosovo, their evaluations in the municipal field were presented also from Mayors of Kosovo.
They expressed maximal readiness to influence in the improvement of citizens’ welfare, especially through advancing the water services sector as a vital component for life.
