Organized by the Ministry of Local Government Administration (MLGA) and Liaison Office of the European Commission in Kosovo (ECLO) in the support of the twinning project was organized a conference "European cooperation for more powerful Municipalities"
On this occasion, Deputy Prime Minister of Kosovo as well as Minister of Local Government Administration, Mr. Slobodan Petrovic, stressed the importance of organizing the conference saying that he welcomes such projects, which enable Kosovo to be part of enlargement of European Union.
"I welcome the fact that the international partners have taken courageous steps to positively describe everything that is done, than to criticize municipalities for their weaknesses. This does not mean that we can not improve and we can not send strong messages throughout Kosovo” said Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Petrovic.
Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Petrovic said that there are many things which are considered as weaknesses but together with international partners, these challenges will overcome because they are very important in improving the lives of the citizens of Kosovo.
Kjartan Bjornson, head of Operations, of the European Commission Liaison Office in Kosovo, said the European Commission will continue to support projects dealing with reforming of the administration process in the following years.
"The EU has confirmed that Kosovo enjoys a European perspective. The role of the municipalities and the local government in fulfilling this perspective is crucial. This is why the European Commission has committed significant funds for investments only at the local level in important fields such as infrastructure, economic development, youth and sports, return and reintegration and direct support in reform processes", said Mr. Kjartan Björnson.
For achievements of the project and its future steps, has discussed to the participants, Mr. John McGrillen, Head of the project from UK.
"With this project, we hope will be improvements in services delivery and will change the lives of citizens in the coming months, so we want you to make your expertise, to exchange the needs in different areas.” – said Mr. John McGrillen.
The presentation conference of the project "European cooperation for more powerful Municipalities" is organized in order to advance cooperative relations between the project and the beneficiary municipalities for further development of planning systems and offering of better services to citizens as well as improvement of these services, according to EU standards.
The project is funded by the European Union and implemented by the European Commission Liaison Office in Kosovo in cooperation with the United Kingdom and Denmark, by working in full partnership with the Ministry of Local Government Administration and municipal administrations in whole Kosovo.
At the conference "European cooperation for more powerful municipalities” have also participated the Mayors of Kosovo.
