The Ministry of Local Government Administration in co-operation with TAIEX has organised a workshop on Developing Municipal Waste Management Plans, which was attended by representatives of central institutions, experts from the European Commission, municipal officials dealing with the issue of waste management, as well as officials from waste management companies. 13 November 2015, Prishtina

The Ministry of Local Government Administration in co-operation with TAIEX has organised a workshop on Developing Municipal Waste Management Plans, which was attended by representatives of central institutions, experts from the European Commission, municipal officials dealing with the issue of waste management, as well as officials from waste management companies.

The discussions were focused on providing advice on EU best practice for waste management strategies to support the development of municipal waste management plans.

The Head of the Department for Municipal Transparency and Performance Mr. Avni Sahiti has opened the workshop in the capacity of a co-organiser, who stressed that the municipalities of the Republic of Kosovo haveurgent needs as regards to the professional approach to waste management, which is one of the basic criteria for general environmental issues.

Meanwhile, the expert from the Ministry of EU funds of Romania Mr. Andrei Mihai has made a presentation on the EU legislation on waste management, while the expert from Environmental Projects Management Agency under the Ministry of Environment of LithuaniaMr. DainiusKazlauskashas made a presentation on the principles of waste management.

The presentation on best practice in developing waste management plansmade by the waste management expert of Environmental Protection Agency of Veneto, ItalyMr. Francesco Loro has also attracted special interest.

Participants provided guidance on waste separation; recycling; waste collection including public private partnerships, inter-municipal partnerships and regional collaboration, and public information and education initiatives.

The workshop organised by MLGA and TAIEX was attended by 55 municipal officials. The workshop was interactive, while participants engaged in debates, discussions and questions dealing with the field of waste management and comparisons with the current state of waste management in the municipalities of Kosovo.

The workshop on the development of waste management plans will continue tomorrow with the involvement of all relevant institutions.
