MLGA and UNDP deliver training on European integration to Municipal Officers for European Integration

The Ministry of Local Government Administration in close cooperation with UNDP have launched the five-day training programme on EU integration for municipal and MLGA’s officials for European integration. 4 April 2016, Pejë/Peć   

The Ministry of Local Government Administration in close cooperation with UNDP have launched the five-day training programme on EU integration for municipal and MLGA’s officials for European integration.

The training programme was opened by the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Local Government Administration, Mr. Bajram Gecaj who stressed out that the promotion of local democracy and increasing the quality of municipal services in accordance with European standards shall be the main goal of the Ministry during this period and that the MLGA has continuously coordinated the activities with local and international stakeholders in Kosovo, in order to achieve the desired progress in the implementation of the criteria set by the EU.

"This training will significantly help institutions of the country to take the necessary steps for strengthening the institutional capacity of municipalities in the future, in full compliance with standards, directives and regulations of the EU",  Deputy Minister Gecaj said.

The Programme Analyst for the Rule of Law in UNDP, Ms. VirgjinaDumnica has said that municipalities have a key role in the development of European integration at the local level and therefore UNDP will continue to support municipalities in this regard. This training is an excellent opportunity to exchange best practices on the implementation of the SAA, since municipalities have a key role in the development of European integration at the local level.

The training programme for European integration shall be delivered to 32 officers in total, i.e.  23 from the municipalities of Kosovo and 9 from MLGA.
The training will be delivered by various experts of the region and will be focused on specific fields of the EU integration processes i.e. role of the agriculture sector during the pre-accession period, necessary capacities in the agricultural field, the role of local communions in the development of infrastructure and key measures for local communions within the EU’s pre-accession assistance in the agricultural sector, the preparation and implementation of strategies on local rural development, regional cohesion policy,  historical development, principles of use, the promotion of  tourism and other related issues related to the European integration process.
