Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Local Government Goran Rakić in the meeting organized to discuss the situation caused by the COVID 19 virus, in the presence of the Prime Minister Hoti, the Minister of Health, the Minister of Education and Mayors, spoke about the support to municipalities in regards to the economic recovery.
Having analyzed the coronavirus situation in Kosovo and around the world, Minister Rakić presented the activities of the MLG during the pandemic, as well as plans for the future.
Speaking about assistance and support to municipalities, in addition to many projects that are in the implementation phase, the Minister highlighted the projects implemented through the municipal performance grants scheme, where 4.9 million euros were allocated by the MLG and the Governments of Switzerland, Sweden and Norway. He also emphasized the importance of projects from the Program for Socio-Economic Infrastructure Development and Inter-Municipal Cooperation in the amount of 573,347.00 euros, as well as the project “Municipalities for Youth” funded by the Japanese Government through the World Bank in the amount of 3 million.
At the end of his presentation, the Minister spoke about the Government Plan for Economic Recovery: “Concerning the latest acts approved by the Government, thus the Decision No. 01/23 on the approval of the Implementation Plan of the Economic Recovery Program, the Ministry took over the responsibility for the implementation of the obligations from this process. In this regard, € 10 million will be allocated to municipalities for managing the situation created by the COVID 19 pandemic, as well as € 29 million to support municipalities. Additionally, based on the request from the Office of the Prime Minister, the Ministry has prepared proposals for investment projection in infrastructure projects at the local level for the five-year period 2021-2025, in the amount of 58,388,098.23 euros “, Rakić emphasized.
At the end, Minister Rakić thanked everyone for their continued cooperation and at the same time expressed his commitment in the fight against the virus, while hoping for a return to a normal life, as soon as possible.
