Minister of the Ministry of Health, Arben Vitia from the beginning of the meeting emphasized that the purpose of this meeting is to coordinate actions between central and local level institutions in preventing and fighting the spread of the pandemic COVID – 19. He thanked the mayors and representatives of municipalities by appreciating the work and their commitment in dealing with the pandemic situation.
He emphasized from the beginning that the Government of Kosovo takes the decisions based on the recommendation of health specialists, respectively the recommendations of the National Institute of Public Health. Additionally, Mr. Vitia highlighted that it is very important that the message we convey as public institutions should be to respect the measures taken by Kosovo institutions and not to have dual messages.
We should take into account that the situation of health institutions is quite alarming, because they are overburdened with infected COVID 19 patients and they have very limited spaces. The measures undertaken end on April 18, 2021 and on April 19 we need new measures for preventing and fighting the spread of the pandemic COVID 19. It is very important that today we discuss together that the measures that will enter into force are coordinated together with the local level, and your proposals as mayors and representatives of municipalities are very important.
The priority of the Ministry of Health is the supply with anti-COVID vaccine. We are on the right path, because in the coming months all elderly people above 65 years we will have the possibility to get the vaccine.
On the other side we have established working groups with the representatives of gastronomes to work on the approach and work of the gastronomy sector in the future, therefore they will start to operate as on April 19, 2021, while strictly respecting the measures for protection of public health. As a conclusion it must be emphasized that the Government of Kosovo has the most nonrestrictive measures compared to the measures taken by the European and countries in the region.
Mr. Elbert Krasniqi at the end of the meeting thanked all the Mayors of the municipalities and emphasized that MLGA is also analyzing the possibility of supporting municipalities especially in the primary health sector at the local level.
