Representatives from the Ministry of Local Government Administration (MLGA), in cooperation with the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), DEMOS, and the Council of Europe (CoE), led a discussion with the Municipal IT Collegium, representatives from academic institutions, including the University for Business and Technology (UBT) and members of civil society organizations, such as ITP Prizren.
The discussions focused on the digitalization of municipal services, the development of “smart cities,” the promotion of innovation, and the modernization of local administration. These efforts fall under Strategic Objective 4, which aims to advance local governance through technology and innovative solutions.
During the meeting, the importance of using information technology was highlighted as a means to simplify administrative procedures, enhance institutional efficiency, improve transparency, and facilitate citizens’ access to public services. Furthermore, the participants discussed the development of innovative digital solutions, the integration of systems, and the application of modern technologies to foster a more efficient, citizen-oriented local administration. Special attention was devoted to the role of the IT Collegium within municipalities in exchanging professional expertise, identifying challenges, and coordinating initiatives for digital transformation. Furthermore, the importance of cooperation among central institutions, municipalities, academic institutions, civil society organizations, and international partners was highlighted, with the aim of developing sustainable solutions in the fields of digitalization and smart cities.
Strategic Objective 4—Digitalization, Innovation, and Modernization of Local Administration represents a key direction for building more efficient, transparent, and modern municipalities that are better equipped to address the needs of citizens.
The Ministry of Local Government Administration (MLGA) will continue its cooperation with municipalities, academic institutions, the OSCE, and other relevant partners to advance digital transformation, strengthen institutional capacities, and promote innovative solutions that contribute to the improvement of public services and the development of modern local governance.
