Minister Petrovic: International experiences and regional cooperation are important and play a useful role in the fulfillment of reform objectives for local government modernization
On Tuesday, on 6 September 2011, in Prishtina, the second annual international conference on local self-government concluded its work. For two days representatives of local and accredited international institutions in Kosovo, from the region and European countries from: Albania, Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro and Turkey contributed in the best experience exchange regarding local government.

On Tuesday, on 6 September 2011, in Prishtina, the second annual international conference on local self-government concluded its work. For two days representatives of local and accredited international institutions in Kosovo, from the region and European countries from: Albania, Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro and Turkey contributed in the best experience exchange regarding local government.
The host of conference, Deputy Prime Minister, meantime Minister of Local Government Administration, Slobodan Perovic, said:
“This year too, this conference was a good forum where political functionaries, leaders of central and local institutions as well as civil servants from different countries had the opportunity to work together, to exchange their experiences and best practices for the local self-government advance”.
Additionally, in the second day of the conference, the US Ambassador in Kosovo, Mr. Christopher Dell presented. He expressed support for the strengthening of self-government in Kosovo and for the advance of regional cooperation as a precondition for the economic and cultural development of region countries.
The two-day conference on local self-government held in Prishtina on 5 and 6 September 2011 aimed to increase the international and regional cooperation regarding local self-government and to highlight the partnership possibilities in the efficient completion of self-government strategic objectives.
Engagement, best practices and regional experience exchange between local self-government institutions aiming fulfillment of EU standards were the basis of discussions in the conference, focusing in three main fields: I. Local Government Reform, II. Local Government Legislation and III. Regional Development and Municipal Cooperation.
At the end of the conference, the joint declaration was read through which the participatory countries delegations invited the donor community, local elected and civil society to actively participate and contribute in the joint activities at the regional level to settle a qualitative and sustainable system in order to support initiatives and regional cooperation.
