Minister of Local Government Administration, Elbert Krasniqi and the Secretary General of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities at the Council of Europe, Andreas Kiefer, discussed together the importance of supporting the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities for the municipalities of the Republic of Kosovo and possible future cooperation.
Minister Krasniqi informed Mr. Kiefer, on the compatibility of the current system of local self-government in Kosovo with the principles of the European Charter of Local Self-Government; applicability and implementation of LLSG legislation by the municipalities of the Republic of Kosovo.
They also talked about the feasibility study completed by the MLGA, the evaluation of the current system of local government in the Republic of Kosovo, where on this occasion, Mr. Krasniqi thanked Mr. Kiefer for supporting the drafting of the implementation plan of this study in order to harmonize it with European standards.
At the same time, Mr. Krasniqi asked from Mr. Kiefer to have the support of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities in the implementation of this study, as well as have a closer cooperation in projects related to the strengthening of local democracy, the successful promotion of the human rights agenda, the fight against corruption at the local level, the promotion gender equality, children’s rights and the implementation of the green agenda.
They also discussed about local elections as well as the fight against fake news, measures taken to combat discrimination and hate speech.
In the end, the Minister Krasniqi thank the Secretary General Kiefer for the support so far.
Whereas, Mr. Andreas Kiefer pledged to continue supporting Kosovo municipalities, in order to strengthen local capacity and implement the necessary reforms for the European perspective.
