Head of the Department of Municipal Performance and Transparency, Mr. Avni Sahiti, along with officials from the Division for the Advancement of Human Rights visited the municipality of Obiliq, where they were awaited by the Mayor Mr. Xhafer Gashi Deputy Chairman for Communities Mr. Slavisa Jakovlevic and Director of Health and Social Welfare Mr. Ibush Mjekiqi.
Head of the DPMT informed the Mayor about the activities within the campaign for Free registration, for birth registration and later registration of the Romë, Ashkali, Egjiptina communities, which will last until 15 March 2015.
This campaign aims to promote the rights of the communities, as an important universal segment of the human rights, and fulfilling the duties deriving from Action Plan for Visa Liberalization for the Republic of Kosova.
In the meeting it was empathized also the issue of the Legal package for the rights of the Human Rights: Project law for Protection from the Discrimination, Project lawon Gender Equality and the Project law for the Ombudsman, where the municipal had the opportunity to provide comments and suggestions for completing the changes for the Draft Laws.
Mayor Gashi empathize his support and commitment and improving condition for providing services for civil registration, which will impact in the social/economic conditions of the REA communities.
Deputy Chairperson, Mr. Jakovlevic, informed the representatives of MLGA that in the municipality of Obliq, exist the problem of Serbian community, who aren’t registered, in the lack of documents. He requested that even for this Serbian community to have the possibility to register in the future.
In the joint meeting it was committed that there will be cooperation and maximum coordination in order to conclude the campaign successfully, by registering greater number of persons that were identified as un-register individual until now.
Also the representatives of the municipality pledged that after the consultation for the Legal package for the rights of the Human Rights, they will provide their comments, recommendations for supplementing and amendment of the Legal package, in accordance with the deadline that is given by the Legal office of the PM office.
After the completing the joint meeting with municipal officials for registration processwe visited some families, in the Plemetin camp and two educational learning centers in this place.
In this case promotion material was distributed, banners, brochures and T-shirts with the slogan "Carry your rights, REGISTER" in three languages: Albanian, Serbian and Roma, where municipal officials will continue the campaign until they achieve to register persons who have been identified as unregistered in order to integrate them.
